It's a chilly day here in The Mile High state, but it should be, right. Because, well, it's January :) Anyway, I haven't done any blogging in a while...like, a long while. Things just tend to get so crazy, busy...crazy-busy. Since leaving my day-job, I've launched an events company, a media company, and a music career! More on the first two in another post.
Last January, I recorded my first single "Firebird" and released it in March (on March 17th to be exact). My original idea was to have a 3-4 song EP. Well, long story short, that EP turned into a full-length album. Over the course of the year, I proceeded to record nine more songs and released The Firebird Album on November 17th. 2017. We had over 130 people attend the album release and listening party at Colorado State University. The event was the culmination of weeks of promotion on social media with loads of content. We had a lot of cool videos made that lead up to the event and then a three-part "interview" between me, Jamaal Curry, and...me, Boss Eagle, that aired at the release event. Check out my YouTube channel to see some of those hilarious videos: www.youtube.com/bosseaglemusic. And don't forget to SUBSCRIBE! S/O to David Priest and Brenda Rundback of Shadow Play Films for helping me create some great vids.
In addition to the album release and all the cool stuff happening, I also received a small music grant from the MISH Granted program, which is a part of the MISH Initiatives of the Mishawaka. (http://www.themishawaka.com) Thank you so much to the folks at the MISH for hooking a brotha up!
The Firebird Album Debuts at #5 on the Billboard Charts
After all the calls, emails, messages and getting blocked on Facebook numerous times, I'm happy to say that all of the effort paid off. The Firebird Album debuted at #5 on the Billboard Heatseekers Regional Chart. I never could've imagined that I would be able to say that I am a Billboard-charting artist - especially with my first album! Thank you so much to everyone who has supported the record, and continue to do so. And now, the album has begun to get spins locally on radio. Since January 11th, three tracks from #TheFirebirdAlbum have been being played on Colorado OpenAir radio: http://www.cpr.org/openair/playlist (search for Boss Eagle). While working on a film project with my friend Nathan the other day, I got a text from another friend, Ren, who'd been actually texted me a couple times that day that my songs were playing. We jumped online and caught the end as Firebird was ended. The programmer said something like, "Not just any eagle, that's Boss Eagle with the song Firebird..." AHHHH, so cool to hear your song on the radio and have a radio DJ mention your name! Thank you, God!
Now that the album is out, my goal this year is to start trying to perform. I recently sent in my first submission for a music festival, the ARiSE Festival here in Colorado, and I'll be submitting for the UMS and FoCoMX. And I'm excited to announce that I'll be performing in St. Paul the week following the Super Bowl at the St. Paul Frozen Film Festival, for their VIP Music Experience. (https://www.stpff.com/boss-eagle) I'm a little nervous, but also stoked. Getting to perform your art for others is a blessing and a privilege. The Firebird is hoping to bring a little heat to the frozen Twin Cities!
The Beat Goes On
There's a lot happening in life right now. We're in the second year of operating EpIQ Events, I've launched a media/marketing & consulting agency, Vine Avenue Media, and we continue to be blessed to be parents and are even expecting another eagle in the nest! I'm thankful to have an album out, and currently working on some other projects behind the scenes that I'm exciting to discuss more as the weeks and months float on. And if you happen to be reading this, I want to encourage you to pursue your dreams as well. We were all created on purpose for a purpose. Take one action step today that will lead you toward your destiny; even if that's deciding that your going to try to figure out what that is exactly :) We all gotta start somewhere, so start. And remember, you don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great!
